El Layth is clearly going the right way and will stay every yard of this trip round here. More of a concern would be the drying ground, for it was soft when he won at Beverley and the only time he has tackled a fast surface was on his debut at Newmarket, where he hung all over the place. However, the one to beat is Makhlab, who beat subsequent Gimcrack 6th Fiddlers Reach at Ponterfract. Third spot may go to Roman Mistress, who is from the same family as the useful Indian Lodge and will appreciate this step up in trip.
