In depth

Verdict

Rival is up 6lb for making all over the track and trip on good to soft last month and could find the ground too fast unless there's rain. Solent Gateway, who was beaten 10 lengths that day, showed massive improvement to win a Class 2 handicap at Epsom and a repeat would see him difficult to beat. Coul Kat has scored three times over a mile but there's no reason he shouldn't last out this longer trip on this track but Corbulo, twice a winner at Bath this season, looked a bit high in the weights at Doncaster. This looks the right track for the front-running FAIRMAC (NAP), who went clear over the trip at Redcar last week and wasn't reeled in until close home. Kempton winner Qaasid never got into contention at Nottingham but his stable is in better form now.
