In depth

Verdict

There are several horses of interest in an open race but the vote goes the way of Soviet Sceptre. Tim Vaughan has fast been making a name for himself with his jumpers and this first runner on the Flat has to be of interest. He comes here in rude health having won a selling hurdle at Newton Abbot with consummate ease last time and already has a course and distance win to his name. He's on a fair mark and looks set to run a big race. Sonnengold is interesting with the talented Probert in the plate but the pick of her form is on softer ground and Summer Bounty could be of more interest with Probert's predecessor an eyecatching booking. The veteran performer has run well here in the past and comes here in fair form. Bob's Your Uncle didn't appear to stay two miles last time but he's proven over this distance and is capable of playing a hand in the finish from his current mark. Awash, Act Three and Pretty Demanding are just three others worthy of a mention in an open heat but we do expect Soviet Sceptre to run a big race.
