A difficult race to fully assess, but it does not look to hold strength in depth, so watch the market but bear in mind Gideon Putnam, Spike Jones, Penny's Crown and You Owe Me, with our vote going to Spike Jones. The form of Gideon Putnam's debut win at Chepstow is nothing out of the ordinary and, while bumper winners in general have an indifferent record when it comes to carrying penalties, he cannot be discounted with the champion Tony McCoy booked. However, he is seven pounds worse off for the length that he beat runner-up Penny's Crown that day so connections of her will be hopeful of a form turnaround. Trainer Jonjo O'Neill also runs Spike Jones. He's by Colonel Collins out of a New Zealand-bred mare so is a little hard to assess. Watch the market for clues. Nigel Twiston-Davies' You Owe Me is another to consider, while Astral Affair's second at Chepstow last time gives her place claims, and Julandi showed some promise at Worcester on her debut. Calvic, being by Old Vic out of a Callernish mare, has something to like on breeding. New Mischief showed some promise on his Newton Abbot debut run and, trained by Noel Chance, will probably not lack for fitness. However, once again, bear in mind market moves, particularly if they favour Spike Jones.
