Verdict

Charles Bruce, the winner in 2013, and Special Portrait, successful 12 months earlier, try to win this marathon for a second time but others are preferred this year. Sheila Crow has brought Connies Cross along quietly but he's now starting to fulfill his potential. Pentiffic was third in this last year while there are possibilities about Alskamatic and Bradley Brook. Ace High and reliable Richie could also figure if lasting home but we'll take a chance that MAJOR MALARKEY is still in the mood after his fine run at Aintree. He doesn't always put his best foot forward but he's a dour stayer and was second in a handicap here just over a year ago on similar going. With the experienced Harry Bannister in the saddle, he will have no excuses today.
