Verdict

Mister Malarky is hard work but Harry Bannister got a tune out of him in this last year when he finished runner-up behind CAPTAIN CATTISTOCK. He is 5lb better off with the winner but Fergal O’Brien’s stayer is the more reliable and has been waiting for this better ground. Lord Du Mesnil needs the mud and the going may have dried out too much for the Carlisle runner-up but Definite Plan goes on the shortlist having come right back to form at Navan. Anightinlambourn and Jimmy The Digger are closely matched on a couple of runs here in the autumn and Java Point was second on the New Course here in January. Percussion ran a cracker when third in the Becher at Aintree in December but hasn’t reproduced that form in two runs since.
