Last year’s Northumberland Plate hero HIGHER POWER (NAP) faded away in the closing stages of his comeback run in Listed company at Nottingham but James Fanshawe’s stayer should be bang there at the finish if back to his best. Great Hall won a tough handicap over 1m4f at Ripon last month but the consistent Weekender may prove a bigger threat on his reappearance having passed the post first over today’s trip at Ascot in October only to be demoted for hampering a rival. Ocean Of Love has shown good progress in handicaps but Haines has a bit to find on these terms.
Great Hall 8-1 (9-7) Held up, headway over 3f out, led over 2f out, hung right approaching final furlong, ran on well, won at Ripon 1m 4f hcp (2) gs in Apr beating Grandee (9-6) by 1 1/2l, 6 ran.
Higher Power 20-1 (9-1) Held up towards rear, headway on outside over 4f out, weakened over 1f out, 8th of 11, 8 3/4l behind Mount Moriah (9-0) at Nottingham 1m 6f lst stks (1) gs in Apr.
Weekender 4-1 (9-1) Close up, pushed along over 2f out, ridden to lead entering final furlong, edged right inside final furlong, soon joined, edged left near finish (finished 1st, placed 2nd), won at Ascot 1m 6f lst stks (1) gs in Oct beating Raheen House (9-6) by ns, 6 ran.
Ocean Of Love 4-1 (9-6) In touch, ridden and headway over 1f out, stayed on to to lead towards finish, ran on, won at Wolverhampton 1m 6f hcp (3) pol in Apr beating Manjaam (9-2) by 1l, 11 ran.
