Verdict

LOUGH DERG JEWEL could hardly have won more easily over an extended 2m6f at Kelso but weakened very quickly after attempting to make all over a similar trip on softer ground at Newcastle. Ridden with more restraint, he should see out this trip and get back on track. Red Rising is bred to be a staying chaser so stamina won't be an issue and he had a bit in hand when scoring between the flags at Monksgrange in April. Ronn The Conn never threatened when runner-up in a four-runner race at Sedgefield where two of his rivals failed to complete but Ultimate Horseman had five second places over hurdles to his credit in Ireland before moving to Tim Vaughan. He ran a shocker on his opening run for the yard but that wasn't his form and he can do much better. Winning point-to-pointer Vouvray was beaten a very long way on his hurdling bow on heavy ground at Ayr.
