In depth

Verdict

Rotheram is given a confident vote in the concluding event on Catterick's card having proved his effectiveness over the 1m4f trip. Paul Cole's gelding showed signs of ability over shorter as a juvenile when always looking as though a longer distance would bring about improvement. That view was confirmed when the son of Dynaformer ran away with an, admittedly uncompetitive maiden over today's trip at Wolverhampton earlier in the month. He does not appear badly treated on his handicap debut and looks a good bet to follow up. Of the opposition Mark Johnston's Herne Bay has been well held in handicaps over middle distances on the all-weather recently and is difficult to fancy unless a return to turf brings about improvement. Mary Reveley's stable continues to struggle to find winners so Spitting Image is one to be wary of. Field Spark is from a stable not known for their early season success, while Time Easterby's No Looking Back is not certain to stay the trip. Green 'N' Gold may improve for the longer trip but has looked a moderate performer on the sand.
