Verdict

Maazel is of obvious interest as the sole representative on the card for the in-form Varian team and the Elzaam gelding should improve considerably for his first run since last October when a respectable fourth at Redcar. He seems sure to go close but DELFIE LANE has continued to post an excellent series of placed efforts on Turf since scoring at Chelmsford in the spring. He's been unlucky to find one too good on four successive occasions now on the grass in competitive sprint handicaps and is taken to go one better. He receives a very useful 9lb from the winner when the allowance of his excellent apprentice is taken into account and is at home on the prevailing quick ground. Miss Icon shaped better last time and is respected but Whiteley and Prancelina both disappointed the last day and will need to improve here.
