Trouble And Strife was exceptionally consistent last season prior to competing on Listed company on her final start. She should be placed to good effect again this term but may be too close in the weights to CHARLES KINGSLEY on her reappearance. The Johnston colt has already proved himself to be ultra-tough and can follow up his easy Hamilton victory last week under a penalty. Perfect Illusion is now 0-8 on Turf so the York third has a bit to prove now but still looks better treated than Gendarme, who has been plying his trade in lesser handicaps.
Charles Kingsley 2-1fav (9-9) Chased leaders, switched left soon after passing the 3f out pole, led over 2f out, edged right and clear over 1f out, ran on strongly, won at Hamilton 1m 3f hcp (4) gs in May beating Royal Cosmic (8-7) by 4 1/2l, 10 ran.
Trouble And Strife (IRE) 14-1 (8-11) Led until halfway, remained prominent, weakened over 2f out, 13th of 14, 14 3/4l behind True Self (9-4) at Bath 1m 6f lst fll stks (1) gs in Oct.
Perfect Illusion 10-1 (9-7) Held up in rear, headway over 3f out, soon chasing leaders, kept on into 3rd inside final furlong, never able to challenge, 3rd of 13, 6 1/2l behind Makawee (9-2) at York 1m 4f hcp (4) gf in May.
Gendarme (IRE) 7-2 (9-6) Clear with winner, ridden over 2f out, outpaced final furlong, 2nd of 8, 13l behind King Of The Sand (9-7) at Brighton 1m 4f hcp (5) gf in May.
