There were plenty of encouraging signs given by St Barchan at Newcastle last time out and he is fancied to put his record straight and get off the mark at the third time of asking. Autumn Wealth and Medalla make the most appeal out of those with recent form, while a bold bid cannot be ruled out from Tricky Venture, who makes his belated reappearance over a course and distance he handled well when he was last seen out. Medalla, who as a once raced four-year-old, has obviously had a few training problems. However, put in a pleasing performance on his debut and, as his dam won on soft ground, he is respected; even though there has to be a suspicion that he will not repeat the effort today. Autumn Wealth has shown signs of inexperience in both his previous starts and may be vulnerable to one that is more determined in a finish. Which we fancy will be St Barchan, who was not afraid to get involved in a scrap for the lead last time and, with that experience behind him, he will be very hard to get past if in a similar frame of mind this afternoon.
