This is a poor handicap and most of the entries are likely to end up hurdling. John Gosden doesn't have many runners at this level so the presence of Caroline Norton has to be noted while another Newmarket-based handler, Conrad Allen, has very few runners here and Silvestre De Sousa is an interesting booking for Azamaara, whose last run was over a mile. Amanda Perrett muddies the water with two entries with Sonic Rainbow possible the best of the pair though she hasn't shown much but Poet Mark is one of the few with scope in the race and was staying on under pressure over 1m4f here on his handicap debut. COSMIC STATESMAN has a big weight but should be up to the task. He's been consistent over 1m6f on fast ground in slightly better handicaps and Paul Hanagan can steer him home. Hookergate Grammar is another dropping slightly in class and, being by Yeats, can be expected to improve over the longer distance.
