The handicapper took a bit of a chance with his assumption of The Persuader and the Mark Johnston-trained colt took full advantage to register decisive victories in both his outings this season. The step up to middle distances has obviously been the making of him and he can continue to pay his way, despite a rise of 13lb in the handicap. He is bred to appreciate the going and has enough scope to defy his penalty today. Arcalis is an obvious danger now that there is some cut in the ground and has to be feared as a serious threat to the selection, as his latest run at Pontefract should have put him spot on for this. He has a useful turn of foot on his day and will be hard to keep out of the frame at least. Cheeky Girl is weighted to get a lot closer to The Persuader this time and is one to watch out for in the betting ring. Where as Banningham Blaze seems to have reached a plateau and is best watched today.
