Maiden handicaps are notoriously difficult to unravel but BRANSTON DE SOTO should be competitive off a mark of 62, is open to improvement after half a dozen starts, represents a majorly in-form yard and, as a son of Hernando, seems sure to derive benefit from this significant step-up in distance. The Kid has also displayed a liking for a longer trip the last twice and should contend, as he too remains pretty lightly-raced. Sir Mark Prescott is now up and running so expect a flood of Heath House winners and his Deauville Dancer is worthy of consideration after a mere four starts and a perfectly feasible mark for the expert handler to exploit. Topweight Angus Glens is also shortlisted after a sequence of reasonable performances and should also progress as a result of this step-up in trip.
