The first handicap at this year’s Western meeting looks almost impossible to solve but most of the pace appears to be on the stands side. Refuge was only third behind Borough at Hamilton two runs ago but is 6lb better off. Ben Macdui was a close third at Beverley after winning at Newcastle but SIR MAXI has also been running well and was placed in a higher grade at York in July. Despite a further pound rise, he shouldn’t be far away again. Carlisle winner American Affair is alongside in stall 21 and a case can also be made for Paddy's Day. Of those drawn low, Wee Fat Mac and Aconcagua Mountain should attract support while One Last Hug is only a pound higher than when successful over course and distance in July.
