A good, competitive handicap can go to Jazz Scene, who is marginally preferred to old rivals Wing Commander and Everest, while Tony Tie and Duke OF Modena are others to monitor for each-way players hoping to nick a place in the frame. The last mentioned is a traveling companion for Toby Balding's Gold Cup hope King's Caprice but, in truth, probably holds an equal chance of paying for the traveling expenses up from Hampshire. The fact that Balding has seen fit for him to make his seasonal debut in such a hot contest is a good clue as to how much enthusiasm the seven-year-old retains. Therefore a positive move should not be dismissed out of hand for this usually consistent character. Tony Tie, who won over course and distance a couple of months ago, is also capable of making the frame and could be good value against the likely market leaders on this ground. However, Wing Commander and Everest also fit a similar profile and this could develop into a rough and tumble affair. Which may suit a horse that likes to come from off the pace like Jazz Scene, who is best when he can get plenty of cover as things unfold. Tony Culhane has a good clock in his head for the pace of a race and he is the ideal man to instill the winning spirit in Jazz Scene if this develops into a dash for the line.
