Verdict

Piccolo Prince is preferred to George The Best, Throw The Dice and Compton Classic. Eric Alston's sprinter is in good heart at the moment and appears effective regardless of the going. The gelding did win on heavy going over Pontefract's six furlongs so there is every reason to suggest that he can go in again here. George The Best landed a monster gamble at Hamilton but disappointed on his latest start. The booking of Paul Hanagan has to rate as a major positive. Throw The Dice has shown some aptitude for this surface although the majority of his racing has been done on significantly faster ground. The market is best watched. Compton Classic is a noted latecomer and his participation will doubtless rely on what he does or does not show at Musselburgh on Sunday. Oeuf A La Neige has course and distance form although reliability is not his strong suit. Of the remainder, Woodwee has a favourable draw and has relatively few miles on the clock this season. Hout Bay has chances on old form but has been off the boil for some time. A tough finale in which Piccolo Prince secures the tentative vote.
