In depth
Verdict
Mark Johnston does well at Ascot and might well have another winner here with Double Obsession. Only lightly-raced, but with a course and distance win under his belt, he has better to come, although this is his toughest test to date. Collier Hill won the Old Newton Cup but disappointed next time. Rule Britannia is six pounds better off for the eleven-and-a-half lengths he finished behind the selection at Ascot, but ought to be able to improve on that. Promoter comes here on the back of a Newmarket maiden win, but more will be required now. Irish import Coup de Chance is interesting in that this will be his first run in England, but two of his three wins have come in claimers. Most of the others will need to produce career-best efforts to win so, once again, it all points back to Double Obsession.
