Tony Martin, out of luck with Top Of The Charts on Tuesday, can get the losses back courtesy of Desert Gold, with Grey Boy, Irony, Marching Song and Jedburgh just a few lively dangers. At first glance this has the look of another bookies' benefit, but Irish trainer Tony Martin knows exactly what it takes to relieve the layers of their cash, and is sure to have laid Desert Gold out for the finale. The mare showed useful form when trained by David Wachman, and really caught the eye on her debut for her current yard at Naas when beaten less than a length in fourth. Fast ground and seven furlongs is an ideal combination for the five-year-old who will have the assistance of Jamie Spencer. Confidence in Desert Gold will be even higher if she is backed in the morning, so watch the market. Grey Boy lines up in the best of form, having won his last two starts at Yarmouth and Ripon, and is at the right end of the handicap, while Irony lines up under a 5lb penalty for his success at Kempton last week. Successful in the 2001 Windsor Castle for Jamie Osborne, he has shown his old sparkle of late and can sneak a place. Marching Song is going the right way, and last year's winner Jedburgh should not be discounted despite lining up on a 6lb higher mark. His Leicester victory was done no harm by the runner-up Philharmonic who filled the same spot in a Listed contest at Salisbury on Sunday. In truth, a pin would come in handy, but Desert Gold is the selection.
