The short list for the day one finale, the Windsor Castle Stakes, contains Scented Present, Snaefell and Dimboola, with the selection being Scented Present. Scented Present's second to Hoh Mike at Windsor two runs ago rates as fair form in this company, and with Frankie Dettori having been booked for the ride on Brian Meehan's colt, he can go well. The trainer's other runner, See In The Dark, isn't out of it either. Snaefell's form also stacks up, and he is respected, while much as Conquest failed to build on his promising Newbury debut effort last time, he is well regarded at home and maybe first-time blinkers will help the cause today. The form of Aahsayson's Catterick win is not too bad and he gets a reasonable shout. Dazed And Amazed won tidily at Newmarket last time and is surely a strong player from Richard Hannon's powerful stable. He also runs The Old Fella, who finished fourth behind Coventry Stakes hopeful Baby Strange on his debut, and with Kieren Fallon having been booked to ride, could go well. Having finished second to the subsequent National Stakes winner Excellent Art at Newmarket, and then having won his maiden at Ripon, Dimboola can go well for his in-form yard. Interestingly, he wears first-time cheekpieces today. Elhamri beat a very good sort in Hoh Mike on his Windsor debut but failed to build on it next time, although, to be fair, that run came on soft going. Espartano is unbeaten in two but the feeling is that he will need to improve again if he is to win, while Fathom Five's Redcar conqueror Steelcut has since gone on to run well in a fairly-valuable contest at Beverley, although based on literal form, Avertuoso is entitled to beat him today. Finally, David Wachman's Rabatash showed plenty of promise on his debut and could also go well but, for the selection, we return to Scented Present.
