This race has thrown up a few shocks down the years and only two of the last 13 clear favourites have been successful, though the winner has usually been well supported in the market- there has only been one winner since the turn of the century that wasn't successful in its previous race. Wesley Ward, who won the Queen Mary in 2009 with Jealous Again, saddles two. Frankie's mount Bruised Orange won at Keeneland in April but Ryan Moore's partner Acapulco weakened quickly when odds-on at Churchill Downs last month. Mark Johnston is also doubly represented with York winner Delizia and Chester's Lily Agnes winner Rah Rah both having reasonable claims. Shaden was slowly away at Nottingham on debut but stayed on strongly to overhaul the more-experienced Rebel Surge and could be useful. Haydock winner Ring Of Truth and the unbeaten Besharah are others to consider while Easton Angel had subsequent Musselburgh winner New Road Side behind when landing the Hilary Needler at Beverley. KURLAND also has an entry in Friday's Albany Stakes so it's significant that connections are targeting this stronger contest. She won very easily at Newmarket in April and could provide a landmark success for Martyn Meade's up-and-coming yard.
