Verdict

A typically wide-open renewal as a wide draw is not the disadvantage it once was. Newfoundland, brother to the brilliant Snowfall, has improved with every run and got off the mark at Navan last month. Yashin beat Vina Sena a length-and-a-half at Navan but the runner-up is now 6lb better off. Balhambar has come on in leaps and bounds since behind Deauville Legend on debut but ISRAR overcame a tardy start to get the better of Surrey Mist at Newbury last month and should relish the extra yardage here being a son of the Oaks and King George winner Taghrooda. The Johnstons’ yard has won this five times in 20 years so Achnamara, even though more exposed than most, shouldn’t be underestimated as he won well over this trip at Beverley before just touched off over further at Doncaster. Franz Strauss makes his handicap debut and so does Gowran winner Flying Dolphin while Savvy Knight is 3-3. Post Impressionist and Secret State are unexposed and represent top yards so also enter the reckoning.
