Sandown's National Stakes is generally won by a progressive type and this year's heroine, Pyman's Theory, certainly fits the bill as she showed blistering pace on the Esher track. However, runner-up Bannock looks to have every chance of reversing the form provided he is kept closer to the pace and he should give Silvestre De Sousa a good ride. Wesley Ward has made no bones about EVERYDAY DAVE being his big Ascot hope and it's not difficult to see why. An easy debut winner at Keeneland in April, he was shipped across to France the following month and made all for a very impressive victory at Chantilly. He'll take some catching in that kind of mood and gets the vote though Bapak Chinta will be very difficult to beat. Kevin Ryan's colt started odds-on for his debut at Hamilton and had no problems seeing off Frederick Engels, who could hardly have done more for the form than landing the Windsor Castle Stakes here on Tuesday. The latter is unlikely to turn out again and it will be a surprise if third-placed Caspar Netscher or fifth Bear Behind were good enough even if allowed to take their place. Crown Dependency gained many admirers with a very polished performance at Goodwood, while Silverheels was very green when eventually scoring easily at Windsor in April and has been given time to mature.
