Monsieur Arkadin had a novice event at Hexham sewn up when falling at the last having won a match at Carlisle earlier. But he is 16lb higher than when beaten in a handicap before that. Vertigo was second at Perth last month but the step up in trip has to be a concern. Black Ivory, should be suited, however, having done well in his first season over timber. Veteran chaser Portrait King is 0-11 over hurdles and likely to find a few of these too quick on the ground but Nigel Twiston-Davies holds a strong hand with Another Frontier and VERYGOODVERYGOOD. The top weight has Tom Humphries' 10lb claim in his favour and first-time cheekpieces are likely to bring about some improvement.
