In depth

Verdict

A valuable contest has understandably produced a competitive field with a number of possibles including Spectrometer who earns the TEAMtalk vote. Trained by the in-form Philip Hobbs, the five-year-old put up a useful performance to lift a middle distance handicap off a mark of 75 at York in August and has shown a consistent level of form since being switched back to the winter game. The son of Rainbow Quest has finished runner-up on both starts this term over timber behind progressive types and, with conditions in his favour, looks sure to give another good account despite top weight. Covent Garden is on the upgrade after easy wins at Hexham and Carlisle but faces his stiffest test to date and is now 10lb higher while Latensaani has been well placed to land three modest novice events but will find this much tougher on his handicap bow. Irish raider Measure Of The Man is not easy to assess but comes here in top form and has to be respected while Fred's In The Know and Deep Water both shaped well on their return and will strip fitter. Cambrian Dawn has had his problems but scored a narrow victory on his sole start last year and may be open to further improvement off a fair mark so is another to consider as a danger.
