Clan Royal, who won this event in 2003, has his first start over the National fences since finishing third in the Grand National last season and Jonjo O'Neill's gelding has to be respected given his fine record over the unique fences; however, the 11-year-old has plenty of weight and a better bet looks to be Tanterari, who is preferred to Dun Doire. A market move for the last mentioned, a Cheltenham Festival winner last term, would have to be of interest given his shrewd connections but he too may have too much weight so may be best watched. Paul Nicholls continues to churn out the winners but his representative Le Duc has given little sign for encouragement of late. Nil Desperandum made an encouraging return at Wincanton earlier this month and could be of interest, while Forest Gunner has gone well here before but the 12-year-old may find that age is catching up with him now. A win for the Don McCain-trained Inca Trail would probably raise the roof but he would not appear to be the best treated horse in the field. Martin Todhunter's runners over the National fences always have to be respected and Just In Debt is no exception but Tanterari has a decent racing weight, is clearly in good form and is taken to complete a hat trick.
