Irish boss refuses to blame absentees after draw

London Irish head coach Toby Booth refused to blame the absence of a number of key players as the reason for his side's 16-16 draw with Worcester at the Madejski Stadium. The Exiles once again failed to make full use of home advantage as the struggling Warriors claimed a share of the spoils on Saturday afternoon. Irish currently have a lengthy injury list, which includes international backs Sailosi Tagicakibau, Delon Armitage and Topsy Ojo, who should return to training within the next fortnight. But Booth refused to use that as an excuse for his side's stuttering form.

Attitude

He said: "Obviously you miss the best resources but that gives other people opportunities to stake a claim and that's part of the long-term plan. We just have to work hard and work our way through it." The Exiles have now failed to win their last three home matches following previous defeats to Newcastle and then Wasps in the Anglo-Welsh Cup. The 15-11 defeat to the Falcons was arguable Irish's lowest point of the season so far, but Booth claimed his men showed a more positive attitude against Worcester than against the Falcons. "There was a marked difference in the approach of the players compared to the Newcastle game," he continued. "However, I thought there was a lot more glaring inaccuracy. "We were on the back foot because they dominated the kicking game and the territory. I think we had two line-outs and one scrum in decent areas. "Some of things we did were a little naive. Chris Latham has not got his reputation by accident and we made him look great.
Errors
"We set ourselves high standards, but give them a little bit of credit, and I'm certainly happier to take two (points) rather than none - that's for certain." Worcester director of rugby Mike Ruddock was delighted with the two points, their third draw in succession, but claimed the Warriors deserved to notch a first away win of the season. "I thought it was a winning performance by us, I thought we deserved to win the game and we were the stronger side overall and made less errors," said the Welshman. "London Irish captain Bob Casey came up to me after the game and said that he thought we deserved to win it. "We've come away to one of the top teams in England and stopped them from getting a victory but, in another way, I'm disappointed that we didn't go the full mile and get the winning result."
