Oyannax caused the biggest upset of the season so far on Saturday in winning away at Racing Metro, while Stade Francais put Bordeaux to the sword in Paris.
Brive 21-15 Castres
Brive piled more misery on Castres as they came from behind to pick up a vital win over their relegation rivals.
Karlen Asieshvili and Alfi Mafi scored the tries for the home side while Geoffrey Palis kept the scoreboard ticking over for Castres, landing four penalties.
With results elsewhere, Castres dropped to the foot of the Top 14 while Brive moved up to 10th place.
La Rochelle 21-15 Montpellier
La Rochelle managed to see off Montpellier at Stade Marcel Deflandre, despite picking up three yellow cards.
Tries from Alofa Alofa and Lekso Kaulashvili set them on their way as they maintained their impressive home record.
Uini Atonio, Jone Qovu and Levani Botia all were sent to the sin-bin for the hosts but Jules Le Bail slotted the key penalty seven minutes from time to deny Montpellier anything from the game.
Stade Francais 39-22 Bordeaux-Begles
Waisea Nayacalevu scored two tries for the victorious Parisians, who welcomed back a number of key players who looked well-rested after the European break.
Bordeaux actually led 9-8 on the stroke of half-time, but a late penalty from Julien Dupuy ensured that Stade were leading at the break and in the second half they took full control of the contest.
Julien Arias grabbed a try and Waisea Nayacalevu touched down for the second time in the contest as Bordeaux struggled to cope when their hosts.
Racing Metro 17-21 Oyonnax
Oyannax caused a major surprise as they stunned Racing Metro at Stade Yves du Manoir.
Racing had the better of the first half with two tries from Johan Goosen and Teddy Thomas, but the visitors stayed in touch thanks to the boot of their fly-half Benjamin Urdapilleta.
Urdapilleta added three more penalties, giving Oyonnax a shock lead with 13 minutes remaining. They held firm to hand Racing their first home defeat so far this season.
Bayonne 24-13 Clermont
Bayonne picked up an important win in their relegation battle, seeing off leaders Clermont after coming back from 10-8 down at the interval.
Their task was made easier by Clermont's decision to rest a number of players after a demanding European fortnight, with Martin Bustos Moyano scoring a try and also kicking a conversion and a penalty.
Clermont crossed through Napolioni Nalaga, though the away team only managed a Brock James penalty in the second half of a match that saw both teams have a player sent to the sin bin.
