All Black legend Dan Carter says he is ready to "face the consequences" after reports he was stopped for drink-driving in Paris.
A magazine story this week said the New Zealander, who plays for Racing 92 in the Top 14, was found to be above the legal limit when police tested him at the roadside on Wednesday night.
Responding to the report, Carter, who was neither detained nor arrested, released a statement on his Facebook page which said: "I am sure a lot of you have seen the headlines.
"No excuses - I made a massive error of judgement and have let down my club, my fans and most importantly my family.
"I will have to now let the police/court process run its course and face the consequences. I am just glad no one was harmed. Sorry."
Fly-half Carter won the 2011 and 2015 World Cups during an All Blacks career which yielded an international record 1,598 points in 112 games.
