Leigh Halfpenny faces further knee surgery and will not play again this season, according to French newspaper Midi Olympique.

Toulon and Wales full-back Halfpenny has been sidelined since suffering torn right knee ligaments in a warm-up match against Italy before last year's World Cup.

The  27-year-old was expected to play against Racing 92 in the European Champions Cup clash at the weekend but missed the 19-16 quarter-final defeat after struggling during training.

Midi Olympique now claims Halfpenny will go under the knife again and could be sidelined for up to three months.

The WRU have yet to confirm the news but should reports prove to be correct Halfpenny will almost certainly miss Wales' tour of New Zealand in the summer.
