Warren Gatland is waiting for news on Sam Warburton after the British and Irish Lions captaincy candidate was hurt playing for Cardiff on Friday.

Warburton crossed for a try during the 23rd minute of the Blues' 24-24 Guinness PRO12 draw with Ulster at the Kingspan Stadium, but he left the game before half-time with a knee injury.

"He had a bang to his knee. We'll get a scan and have him assessed as soon as possible," Blues head coach Danny Wilson said.

Warburton had emerged as a strong contender to captain the Lions in New Zealand, with Wales team-mate Alun Wyn Jones a doubt for the tour.

Jones, who captained Wales during the Six Nations, suffered a shoulder injury against France and will not be reassessed until early May.

Gatland is scheduled to name his Lions squad on April 19.
