Cardiff Blues have announced the signing of fly-half Steve Shingler on a long-term contract.

The 24-year-old, who can also play at centre and full-back, will move to the Arms Park from Scarlets ahead of next season.

The Swansea-born back is currently in his second spell with Scarlets and has scored 322 points in 63 matches for the club.

Shingler, capped by Wales at U20 level, made his competitive debut for Llanelli in 2009 before joining the Scarlets the following year.

After a two-year spell in England with London Irish, Shingler returned to Scarlets and has been a key performer this season in the Guinness PRO12 and European Rugby Champions Cup.

Blues head coach Danny Wilson told his club's official website: "Steve is someone I have worked with in the past and I know what a quality player he is.

"His goal-kicking and kicking in general play is very strong and he has a lot of experience from operating at fly-half and centre in both the Guinness PRO12 and English Premiership.

Shingler said: "I'm looking forward to linking up with Cardiff Blues from next season.

"Danny Wilson is assembling a great squad, recruiting strongly and I hope I can play my part and help the region achieve its long-term aspirations.

"I'm currently sidelined with a knee injury, but I'm looking forward to getting back and contributing towards the end of the season as the Scarlets push for a big finish in the league."
