Munster are hopeful of appointing a successor to outgoing director of rugby Rassie Erasmus "in the coming weeks", according to IRFU performance director David Nucifora.

It was confirmed in July that Erasmus was leaving the province to return to his native South Africa to become the Springboks' director of rugby.

Defence coach Jacques Nienaber is also departing to become South Africa's high-performance coach.

With Erasmus and Nienaber scheduled to return to South Africa at the end of December, Munster have just over three months to find their successors.

Nucifora has confirmed a suitable candidate to replace Erasmus has now been identified and negotiations are progressing.

Nucifora told TV3 News: "We are talking closely with someone. We would be hopeful that things would continue to go well and an agreement might be reached.

"Things can change very quickly, but there is a lot of progress that has been made. We would be hopeful that in the coming weeks that we would have something to be able to announce."
