Viliame ‘Bill’ Mata has signed a two-year contract at Edinburgh after winning Olympic gold with Fiji at Rio 2016.

The 24-year-old middle-row, who scored a try in his side's 43-7 victory over Team GB in the Sevens final in August, has now completed a move to the Scottish club, subject to a medical and visa, after representing his nation at nine events on the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Mata switched codes from rugby league to join the circuit, where he scored 11 tries, and is now looking forward to playing with Edinburgh after achieving his Olympic ambition.

"My goal was to win the gold medal for Fiji and we got it," Mata told the club's official website. "Now my goal is to perform well for my new team.
