South Africa No 8 Uzair Cassiem has been ruled out of next weekend's Rugby Championship clash against New Zealand at Newlands after sustaining a rib injury against Australia.
Cheetahs' back row Cassiem went off early in the 27-27 draw in Bloemfontein on Saturday and will not play for the Springboks in their final game of the four-nation southern hemisphere championship.
The South African Rugby Union said a replacement would be named if required for next Saturday's encounter.
All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick will also miss Saturday's Test following the loss of his unborn son.
The Chiefs second-row forward had been rested as New Zealand claimed their fifth Rugby Championship in six years by beating Argentina 36-10 at Velez Sarsfield on Saturday.
Sam Cane, Ryan Crotty, Lima Sopoaga, Liam Squire and Sam Whitelock, who were also held back from the title-clinching defeat of the Pumas, have already arrived in South Africa ahead of the game in Cape Town.
