South Africa need to ask themselves whether they did their jerseys justice against New Zealand, according to former World Cup winning Springbok Bob Skinstad.
The Boks were hammered 57-0 by the All Blacks in Albany on Saturday, their first loss of 2017, but it was a poor performance for a team ranked third in the world.
"I'm not the kind of ex-player who goes and picks on individuals for performances," said Skinstad, who made 42 appearances for South Africa between 1997 and 2007.
"But there are a couple of guys there who could take that jersey back into the change room and say 'Did I do it the justice that it deserves?'
"Maybe have a little meeting with themselves and work harder in those areas, not only physically but mentally as well."
The former No 8. said the Springboks were outwitted by the All Blacks and believes Allister Coetzee's men need to play a smarter brand of rugby in order to be successful.
"South Africa I think need to rewind a little bit and say 'Have we got smart people playing rugby here, or are we just big oafs that are going to smash the ball up?'"
