Departing Bath back-row Leroy Houston is among six cuts from a 33-man Australia squad for the first Test against England on June 11.

Uncapped Houston, who is leaving the Aviva Premiership club to join the Queensland Reds this summer, had been named for a training squad by Michael Cheika last month.

Houston, who had last been called up by the Wallabies 11 years ago, misses out along with hooker James Hanson, lock Adam Coleman, flanker Liam Gill and fly-half Joe Powell, while utility back Mike Harris is ruled out by a hamstring injury.

That still leaves Cheika with seven potential debutants for the first Test in Brisbane, including former rugby league international and Australian Football League recruit Karmichael Hunt.

There is also a chance for Melbourne's rookie centre Reece Hodge, who was added to the squad as a replacement for Harris.

"Reece has really impressed me this week after being thrown into the deep end. It's not just about being in the environment for him now and I know he'll be pushing for selection in the match-day 23," Cheika said.

Harlequins lock James Horwill is the only overseas-based player in Cheika's squad with Sekope Kepu having confirmed his return to Australia with the Waratahs on Friday.
