Wasps’ new signing Kurtley Beale was stretchered off after 20 seconds in the Waratahs’ game against the Bulls on Saturday morning.

Wasps' superstar signing Kurtley Beale is reportedly facing up to a year out after he was injured playing for NSW Waratahs on Saturday.

The Australia full-back landed awkwardly after challenging for a high ball in the opening seconds of the Waratahs' Super Rugby game against the Bulls in Sydney.

Wasps now face an anxious wait to hear official news on whether their marquee purchase has suffered any serious damage, but Sky Sports studio guest Michael Lynagh said he had been told Beale ruptured a patellar tendon.

The former Wallabies captain said: "I think at half-time we were saying it's not as bad as first thought but they've taken him to a hospital, examined him and they think it's a ruptured patellar tendon, which is quite an unusual and serious injury.

"They reckon he's going to be operated on in the next 48 hours and it's sort of a six-to-12-month injury.

"That's the latest, he's in a lot of pain at the hospital, etc... so our thoughts go out to Kurtley and we hope that he's okay."

Beale, who has 60 international caps, announced on Friday he will leave Super Rugby at the end of the season to join Premiership side Wasps.

Lynagh's information would mean a delayed debut in English rugby and rule Beale out of this summer's Test series against Eddie Jones' side.

When contacted by Sky Sports, Wasps said no comment on the matter would be made by the club until Monday at the earliest.
