Bath boss Meehan expects Moody to play against Harlequins

Leicester director of rugby Richard Cockerill is hoping Toby Flood will be made available to play against Gloucester next weekend. Fly-half Flood kicked six penalties and a drop goal to help the Tigers secure a 21-15 victory over Bath at a rain-soaked Welford Road. The former Newcastle player will now link up with the rest of England's elite squad on Sunday night ahead of the autumn internationals. However Cockerill is hoping the number 10 may be allowed to get another club game under his belt having only just returned from a knee injury.

Correspondence

"Toby will report with England tomorrow evening. We have had some correspondence regarding Floody for next week but we will have that discussion this evening," Cockerill said. "Floody has only had two-and-a-bit games in two months and we would like him to be available for next week, but it will be Martin's call. If they keep him, they keep him. "I think Toby would like to keep playing as two-and-a-bit games is not ideal before facing the All Blacks in terms of body hardness. "But it is not my decision and Martin is pretty good, he has a lot of common sense and we'll respect his decision." Flood, who has started only two games since being hurt on the opening weekend of the season, added: "I want to play. I'm not too fussed either way. "I don't feel like I need it but if I do I won't be complaining as we are a bit disappointed with how it went today." As for the win over Bath, Cockerill admitted the heavy rain in the first half had forced both teams to settle for a kicking battle. "It was pretty ordinary for both sides. When that downpour came it ended the game as spectacle," he said. "It was a bit frustrating as it becomes a lottery and you don't get the true result as you don't know how the sides would have played in good weather. It ends up being a game of errors and penalties. "We should have controlled the game at 12 points up and we need to work on that. They should not have been playing for the game near the end but I didn't think they looked like scoring a try."
Effort
Bath are still searching for their first win at Leicester's home since November 2003, though coach Steve Meehan was not too disappointed in defeat. "I was very pleased with the effort we showed and the way we stuck to our guns," he said. "The pack did very well and our inside backs kicked intelligently which was what was required. A couple of calls go for us instead of against us and it could have been different. "That was our best wet-weather performance in years. If we play like that every week we are going to win more than we lose. "We were prepared to stick to our plans and not go off-piste. For the players to apply themselves and go against their natural grain is a sign of maturity." Meanwhile, Meehan confirmed that England captain Lewis Moody is likely to be allowed to make his return from an eye injury against Harlequins. "I expect Lewis to be playing for Bath next Sunday, we've had confirmation," he added.
