Elliot Daly deserves England start, says Wasps director Dai Young

Dai Young says Wasps centre Elliot Daly can do nothing more in his pursuit to secure a starting berth for England at the Six Nations.

Daly produced a superb second-half try in the 51-10 victory over Leinster at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday that saw Wasps book their place in the Champions Cup quarter-finals as Pool Five winners.

The uncapped 23-year-old, who was also named man of the match, is competing with Jonathan Joseph to start at outside centre when England face Scotland at Murrayfield on February 6.

"Elliot has been struggling with a bad hamstring all week. If that's him playing with one bad hamstring, I don't mind him having two," Wasps director of rugby Young said.

"He was outstanding and while I don't select the England team, I don't think he can do any more. He showed what a threat he is against the best in Europe.

"He's also been excellent at the bread and butter stuff like defence that you expect from an international centre and he's shown his all-round game. It would be hard not to pick him.".

Wasps amassed seven tries as Leinster were put to the sword in another remarkable afternoon in Europe for a club that was drawn in the competition's 'group of death' that also featured Toulon and Bath.

"We're definitely in the quarter-finals and that's important," Young added. "Topping the group is a major achievement. If we can get a home draw, we'll be thrilled.

"If we don't we'll be happy to go wherever we have to. We've shown already in this competition we can win away.... we've gone to Dublin and Bath and won and probably should have won in Toulon last weekend.

"It's not beyond us to go to some difficult places and win, but just to be in the quarter-finals for two years on the trot is a huge statement from the club. We'll enjoy this evening."
