Winger George North will miss the rest of Wales' tour of New Zealand after suffering a hamstring injury in the first Test.
North hobbled off during Wales' 39-21 defeat at Eden Park and the immediate prognosis did not look good for the British & Irish Lions star.
Wales have called Cardiff Blues star Rhys Patchell and Ospreys wing Keelan Giles to New Zealand as injury cover.
Patchell, 23, has two Wales caps, both earned on the 2013 summer tour to Japan. Giles, 18, is currently part of Wales' U20 Championship squad competing in Manchester.
A Welsh Rugby Union statement read: "George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand and has been released from the squad.
"North suffered a hamstring injury in the first test in Auckland, ruling him out of Wales' remaining games. Further information will be made available in due course."
The 24-year-old North was playing his 65th test on Saturday and was one of Wales' best players, making six line breaks. Wales coach Warren Gatland described North's performance as "absolutely outstanding".
Wales are due to face two-time Super Rugby champions the Chiefs on Tuesday, with the next Test set for Saturday at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
