Ireland flanker Jordi Murphy has been ruled out for between six and nine months after suffering a serious knee injury during Saturday's famous victory over the All Blacks in Chicago.

Murphy scored Ireland's opening try in the 10th minute of the 40-29 win at Soldier Field but was forced out of the action 15 minutes later.

The 25-year-old Leinster forward was on crutches when he returned to Dublin on Monday morning and it has now been revealed he has damaged the ACL in his left knee.

Murphy drops out of the squad to face Canada at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday evening, but Ireland have no other injury concerns ahead of the first match of the Guinness Series.
