Centre Huw Jones returns from injury as one of three changes to the Scotland side for their Six Nations opener against Ireland.

The Stormers midfielder is fully recovered from the foot injury which forced him to miss Scotland's final autumn international against Georgia in November.

Vern Cotter retains the rest of the back division from that match with his other two changes coming in the pack, where hooker Fraser Brown and No 8 Josh Strauss are handed starts.

Brown replaces 102-cap man Ross Ford, who is among the replacements, while Strauss comes in for Rob Harley, who misses out on the squad entirely.

Strauss' inclusion means a positional move for Ryan Wilson, who will start at blindside opposite Hamish Wilson.

There are four further changes to the bench, with Edinburgh prop Simon Berghan in line for a Test debut if called upon from the replacements.

Head coach Cotter said: "Although it's a reasonably settled squad, it's nice to have an uncapped player and some reasonably new players in the team, who bring their enthusiasm along with the others.

Scotland head coach Vern Cotter says he wants his team to earn at least two wins in his last Six Nations tournament in the job

"We've been growing our depth and our versatility within that, so we have a number of different options that allow us to continually attack the opposition, which is our main focus.

"Facing Ireland first up doesn't get much harder.

"They are at the top of their game and will come here with confidence after beating some of the best teams in the world, including the All Blacks and Wallabies and having won the tournament twice in the past three years."
