Elliot Daly and Nathan Hughes will miss the start of England’s Six Nations campaign with injury, their club Wasps have confirmed.

Both players picked up injuries in Wasps' European Champions Cup win against La Rochelle with winger Daly damaging his ankle while No 8 Hughes injured knee ligaments.

Daly will be out for up 12 weeks with Hughes facing up to 10 weeks on the sidelines but neither player requires an operation.

Wasps Director of Rugby Dai Young said: "Elliot has injured his ankle - he has a syndesmosis injury - which is pretty common.

"He is going to see the specialist to see whether any surgical intervention is required, which depending on the grade of the injury hopefully it won't be.

"Nathan has an MCL injury to his knee. Again, we're waiting on the specialist to let us know what is required, but we can safely say even the best picture, which is a grade one tear, will require a minimum of four weeks."

The pair both featured in Eddie Jones's autumn Tests squad but will not be available for the start of England's Six Nations campaign which begins against Italy in Rome on February 4. Their final game is on March 17 at home to Ireland.
