Josh Beaumont has been added to England's training squad for their camp in Portugal next week.
The Sale Sharks captain will act as cover for Northampton lock Courtney Lawes, who missed his side's 23-20 win over Gloucester with a swollen knee.
Lawes will remain with the squad but is being held out of training because of his injury, with Saints coach Jim Mallinder saying he wasn't sure his player would be available for England's Old Mutual Wealth Series.
Eddie Jones is already without a host of forward options with likely starters Maro Itoje and George Kruis both set to miss the entire autumn campaign.
James Haskell, Jack Clifford, Mike Williams and Sam Jones are also sidelined.
Beaumont is yet to play a capped international for his country, with his only England senior performance having come against the Barbarians in May 2015.
Jones is taking his squad to Portugal for a week of training before returning to their Pennyhill Park base to put the finishing touches on their preparations for four Test matches.
England first face South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday November 12 and then face Fiji, Argentina and Australia on the following three Saturdays.
