England coach Eddie Jones has warned that "three or four" players have put their squad places in doubt with poor performances for their club sides.
In an interview with Sky Sports News HQ, Jones confirmed several players may find they do not make the national squad for the summer tour to Australia because they have not maintained "good habits".
Jones did not name the players, but did confirm he has communicated his unhappiness to the concerned parties.
"There have been three or four that have been absolutely disappointing and they've obviously put their tour places in jeopardy," he said.
"We expect those players to go back to their clubs and play like international players and we want them to have good habits - a couple of them haven't done that and are in a bit of strife at the moment.
"I've spoken to some of them directly and some of them indirectly and they'll understand the situation. The ones who have excuses aren't going to make it."
There are some players knocking heavily on the door and some of those players will come into contention for the tour squad.
One player who Jones has confirmed he has watched with the summer tour in mind is Leinster centre Ben Te'o, who will leave the PRO12 club for Worcester at the end of the season.
Inside centre Teo'o represented New Zealand at youth level in rugby league and also qualifies for Australia but has elected to play for England.
"There are some players knocking heavily on the door and some of those players will come into contention for the tour squad," he said.
"I watched Ben Te'o play for Leinster against Ospreys and he did the simple things well. He straightened the attack, took the ball into contact, threw some short passes and defensively he was tough.
"There are some really good central responsibilities for a 12 there and certainly he's got to add some bits to his game but he is worth looking at.
"He could have played for Australia but he's made a conscious decision to play for England and that makes us interested in him."
