England captain Dylan Hartley may not play again this season after being ruled out of Northampton's game against Wasps with concussion.
The hooker was knocked unconscious on international duty during England's Six Nations game against France in Paris on March 19 when he tackled French prop Uini Atonio.
Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder confirmed that Hartley would not be available for his side's game against Wasps on Sunday and suggested he may play before the end of the campaign.
But, having lost Welsh wing George North to a concussion injury for five months of last season, Hartley's club side are adopting a cautious approach.
"You don't know with these things and sometimes they can go on," Mallinder told The Times. "You've got to be very careful. We had this issue with George North this time last year, we'd have loved to get him back for the big games, the semi-finals and finals, but he just wasn't right.
"We're more hopeful with Dylan. We're hoping and expecting him to play again for us this season."
