Eddie Jones will change England coaching staff, says Stuart Barnes

The RFU have confirmed that Eddie Jones has been appointed as their national team's head coach on a four-year contract, starting in December.

Jones becomes the first non-Englishman to take the job and succeeds Stuart Lancaster after a disappointing World Cup campaign.

Top of the Jones agenda will be to select his coaching staff and Stuart Barnes does not believe that current forwards coach Graham Rowntree, attack coach Mike Catt or defence coach Andy Farrell will feature in the new England set-up.

"Eddie Jones has got to sort out his backroom staff. That is absolutely vital and there can be no compromise - they have to be who he wants," said Barnes on Sky Sports News HQ.

"I would not be surprised if Jake White comes into that equation - having said that I don't want White as a head coach, he is very close to Eddie Jones and they work well together. That would be interesting."

Jones has had recent success with Japan in the World Cup where he coached them to three wins out of four, including a remarkable win over South Africa, and Barnes believes that the rest of the Japan coaching team would be high on Jones' list.

He added: "The team that took Japan to three wins: Steve Borthwick, Leigh Jones - who is a very good breakdown defence coach - and Marc Dal Maso as the scrum coach, are all very serious contenders.

"Then there are also one or two of the Saracens team - maybe Alex Sanderson or Paul Gustard in contention, but he won't take both."
