Richie McCaw is free to play in Saturday's Rugby World Cup final after he wasn't cited for his collision with Francois Louw in the last four.

The New Zealand captain was in danger of missing the match at Twickenham after he clashed with the South Africa player during Saturday's semi-final at Twickenham.

They came together after 20 minutes of the All Blacks' 20-18 victory and an initial replay of the incident suggested he could be facing a suspension.

McCaw appeared to strike Louw with a deliberate elbow and if it had been determined that was the case it would undoubtedly have interested the citing officer.

Being found guilty of that offence results in a two-week ban and that would have meant New Zealand would have been without their inspirational skipper for the tournament decider.

A different angle has given a new perspective, however, and McCaw merely caught Louw on the shoulder with his hip.

A World Rugby spokesman said: "There are no citings from the semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa."

That leaves McCaw in the clear and he will lead the World Cup holders as they look to defend their title against their biggest rivals Australia in London.
